This is a rare example of a c. 1895 combination match safe and railroad ticket holder. The front opens to expose the ticket compartment, the top lid opens for the matches. The interior id gold gilted. The bezel is marked "sterling" and there is a steel saw-toothed striker to the bottom. Its approximately 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches. Its a heavy, solid piece weighing 1.6 oz. Excellent condition with a strong lid spring.
