This is a c. 1900 German match safe that required the simultaneous squeezing of two studs to allow the agate cover to slide open. The top is banded agate applied to nickel plated brass, one edge is marked "D.R. Patent. A. No. 32533." Its approximately 1 7/8 x 1 1/2 inches with a striker to one edge. Excellent condition, with minor plating wear. This match is originally from the Eugene & Christine Sanders Collection and is featured in their book POCKET MATCHSAFES REFLECTIONS OF LIFE & ART, 1840-1920, page 28, Fig 4/5. R1:1. This is the only example of this match safe I have seen in over 30 years of collecting.
