This is a c. 1899 match safe in the shape of an elk's tooth with B.P.O.E. (Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks) to the top above a blue enameled clock situated above an elk's head on one side, the reverse is plain. The bezel is marked "Sterling", "S247", "Pat. Nov. 14, __99" plus the maker's mark for Simons Bro. and Co., Philadelpha, PA. Its approximately 2 5/8 x 1 1/2 inches with a striker to the side of the lid. Excellent condition with a strong lid spring.
