Stunning antique by W. Guerin (W. G. & Ce in scrolled brackets) Limoges, France porcelain china oval, celery/relish serving dish. This signed hand painted dish has a lavender, mauve undertone and is decorated with sweet violets and green leaves. The piece has a scalloped, molded edge and one ornate handle reminiscent of a feather or leaf, with both the rim and handle painted in gold gilt. The outer side of the edge is painted in a minty teal. The painting is gorgeous.
The backstamp dates this piece circa 1900. William Guerin (1838-1912) took over a Limoges porcelain factory in France in the early 1870s. His company's first underglaze mark included looped brackets that enclosed the letters "W G & Ce," the "Ce" being an abbreviation for the French word "compagnie." The company added the "Limoges" mention above the brackets starting in 1900 or 1901. I consider the circle"B" on the back to be a signature.
The tray measures 9"" by 5"" with the handle being 1 1/4' tall.
This work of art is in excellent condition. There's no damage of any kind. It is absolutely beautiful.
This lovely Limoges tray would be a wonderful find for a collector or appreciated by any lover of fine objects.
