is now SOLDThis stunning Blue Boar Humidor Tobacco jar was made for the American Tobacco Company between 1890 and 1900. They used it as a marketing premium for their Blue Boar Rough Cut pipe tobacco. The original maker of the glass is unknown. This humidor has the "WOW" factor. The blue satin glass just shimmers. The blue boar finial is just amazing. It is hollow underneath to hold a sponge for moistening. The sides are ribbed and the lid fits tightly on the canister. Finding these are difficult and the jar is considered rare.
This one is in excellent condition except for a large chip in the bottom base rim. Usually the top would be damaged as it has the more delicate part. The razorback hog (boar) is in fine condition. There is a bubble in the making on the lid. There are a few black spots in the glass (in the making). There is a very small flake on the inside top canister rim, which is covered by the lid when closed. The bottom rim chip can be turned away to the back so it won't show. Normally these jars are quite expensive, but it is attractively priced here.
This is a heavy piece of glass, about 4 pounds. Overall height is about 9" by 6" round.
