You are looking at a very scarce, beautifully ornate Victorian Rococo styled Virginia Metalcrafters cast iron oval painted mirror with easel back. The original painted finish is age toned to a soft ivory color in excellent vintage condition with some minor edge chipping as shown. The mirror glass is edge beveled and is in excellent condition, but has a very small bubble in the mirroring at the very bottom (see photo with the red bar).
The mirror has the VM foundry mark on both the easel and on the rear top of the frame along with the item number: “14-3”. Perfectly sized for a spectacular vanity or dresser mirror. The easel back extends back 6” with a ribbon holder, which can easily be re-adjusted.
Virginia Metalcrafters was in business from 1890 to 2006. It was one of the oldest foundries in the United States and produced many items for Colonial Williamsburg. This mirror has been in my family’s possession since at least the 1950’s. The paint is all original with no touch-up except for a small spot on the back of the easel base (see photo by red arrows).
