This lovely mantle vase was handblown and hand painted, probably around the 1890’s. The opaque custard glass fluoresces green under a black light (see photo). The decoration depicts a song bird singing on a pink dogwood branch. The top has a gold ruffled edge.
This vase was most likely made in England or France. It’s in excellent condition with no damage or repairs. There is age-appropriate shelf wear on the bottom. The decor is in very good shape. The colors are strong and bright. There is handwork tooling evident in the top ruffled edging and a very small “in the making” blemish on the neck by the shoulder of the vase (see red bar in photo). The enamel work is very well done. At 14” high, it will make an impressive display in your home.
WIDTH: 6” Round approximately.
