An early gold mohair Ideal American bear with so much personality, a cute mousey type face, glass eyes, black stitched nose and claws. It is circa 1909, but it retains most of the lustrous gold mohair, (wear is apparent to the back of his ears, and some overall thinning). Mr. bear is 11.5" tall. The little bear is a bit of a stargazer, with upturned face, and a large hump on the back. He has his original felt foot pads with board under the pads to aid in standing, and nicely replaced paw pads, long arms with 4 claw stitches on each paw.
You can see a "mousey face" Ideal bear on page 23 of Ken Yenke's Teddy Bear Treasury, volume 11. In 2003, he valued his at $2000. The early Ideal American bears are hard to find and rare. This style is so cute that it is among the most desirable.
All of his joints work well. There are no holes. He has a squeaker in his chest but it no longer works.
Mr. bear was sold on lay away, but the buyer had to cancel the lay away for financial reasons. So he is being re-listed and is available.
