A very cute and rare Hecla teddy bear, 12" tall....
This cute early American bear, C 1906, belonged to a school teacher named Helen. Helen never married; she taught English. She must have treasured this little bear, as it is in wonderful condition. When she passed, the little bear was given to a close friend, and from there to us. Helen Hecla has her original felt paw and foot pads, with just one tiny nibble, smaller than a pencil eraser. The lustrous blonde mohair has only a little thinning, mainly around one eye. She has big black original boot button eyes and rust color claw stitching, 4 claws on each paw and foot. Her nose is mostly original with a few stitches added. I gave her the lace collar. See pages 52 and 53 of Ken Yenke's Volume 2 Teddy Bear Treasury; book value up to $4000. This is a very rare bear. Very few were ever made, as the company only made bears for 2 or 3 years, and to find one in such wonderful original condition is even more rare!
