This beautiful vintage brooch is a shell cameo - the cameo carving is of a woman with flowers in her hair and on her shoulder and she also has a diamond set in white gold around her neck. This type of cameo is called Habille meaning "dressed" in France. This cameo measures 1-1/2" x 1-1/4" and is in a sterling mounting.
In the 1930's the diamond industry, trying to get women to buy diamonds, started putting diamonds in cameos. Most women owned a cameo but not a diamond. This is called Cameo habille, or decorated. Most of these are white gold.
