Nat Sugarman started the Beatrix Jewelry (BJ) company in 1946 which he named after his sister Beatrice. In 1965, Beatrix jewelry was purchased by Leonard Mandell who was the company's manager. At this time they began marketing a variety of average quality Christmas trees and other Christmas jewelry including their famous Chris mouse pin.
Most of the earlier pieces of Beatrix Jewelry were not marked. Signing their jewelry with "BJ" or "Beatrix" wasn't consistent until about 1975. Beatrix Jewelry company was sold in 1977 to Treasure Master who only operated until 1983.
