This beautiful vintage brooch is marked with 4 hallmarks. The brooch is sterling and has grape vine leaves and vines that have been etched on it. The pin measures 1-3/4" x 1/2" and is in beautiful condition. The brooch is dated 1898 and made in Birmingham (by the English Hallmark). The hallmarks are 8B or SB - A Lion - A "Y" - and a sideways anchor. It has a tube hinge and a long pin. Thanks to a wonderful customer - I know this now.
The makers mark is Robert Pringle & Sons. He was first registered as a silversmith in 1871 and then registered several more times in London, Chester, Sheffield and Birmingham. They are famous for their flatware and tea services but moved premises and started making jewelry (some with gems) in 1890.
