Wow! It isn't very often you see true Latticino Beads! (Description below). The beads are then decorated with Flowers called Fiorato which is many times called Wedding cake. Made in Murano Italy these beads have been tied in between each for safety. The strand is 26" in length and in beautiful condition.
In 1527 Filippo Catani patented zanfirico or retorti filigree, which saw fine milky white canes included in transparent cristallo glass and twisted as a spiral. This was taken a stage further with latticinio in which rods of opaque glass, usually white or gold, were incorporated in the body of the clear glass vessel and worked in lattice patterns.
Nothing says Murano glass beads like the fiorato style of beads. The term fiorato means 'floral', and usually features a flower pattern that has been 'painted' into the glass with a small, thin cane, or uses the classic millefiori pieces to create the floral effect. This category has some of the most classic styles of Venetian and Murano glass beads ever made, as well as some modern and creative interpretations of this style of bead.
