Set of 6 Quist silver plated tea, punch, or coffee cups with bakelite handles. The saucers are 4-1/2” diameter, the cups are 3-1/4” diameter by 1-1/4” height. They easily hold a generous 2/3 cup of liquid, leaving room at the top of the cup. The bakelite handles have been tested with simichrome (see the last photo) and are securely screwed in to the cup. The swirly wave pattern on the plates and cups assists in the reflection of light, showing off both the silver and the lovely patina.Excellent condition, I see no dents or scratches, just beautiful! Each cup is marked with the Quist hallmark. These capture a moment in time, don't they?
The firm originated from the plant founded in 1866 by Jakob Swiss Jr. In 1872 the firm modified its name in Actien Plaque Fabrik having among the major shareholders Wilhelm Friedrich Quist (1831-1903). In 1890 the firm became F.W. Quist Metallwaarenfabrik, located in Esslingen, Germany, and Quist family continued to manage the firm until 1951. The factory closed in 1981 for bankruptcy.
