Splendid signed Reja brooch. The design is that of gold plated pine cones and needles upon sparkling pave crystals. There is rhodium plating on the back and it is signed Reja. The brooch measures 2" by 1-1/2". It is very clean and in excellent condition.
Reja, Inc. was founded by Sol Finkelstein in 1939 in New York City. It was originally called Deja Costume Jewelry, Inc. Du Jay, Inc. took Deja to court over trade name similarity and won in October, 1940. As of January 1941, the company name was changed to Reja, because, (according to Brunialti in A Tribute to America) it was easy to change the "D" to an "R" on the stamped signature.
Reja jewelry is extremely high quality, high priced, and is very collectible because of its quality, design, and scarcity. Reja operated for only a short period of time, from 1941 through December 1953.
