Walter Lampl 14K Ring with carved lapis stone. What a find this is! The Art Nouveau design on the band is exquisite. I thought it was so magnificent that I used the side of the ring as the primary photo! The Chinese carved lapis stone is beautifully carved into an elegant floral design and is in excellent condition. It is delicately and securely prong set. This ring is truly a collector's item, and one to be admired and loved! Marked 14k and has the WL hallmark in block letters used by Walter Lampl in his earlier years, the 1920's-1930's. Size 5.25. (The photo with the ring sizer has the ring loosely sitting on 5. If pushed down slightly, it stops at 5.25). The carved lapis is large, measuring 19mm by 11mm. Absolutely gorgeous.
Walter Lampl is known for two things mainly: being a fantastic designer using superb quality materials and workmanship, and being a very kind and generous man. There is a fabulous and inspiring article about him called Walter Lampl: Creators of the Unusual…As Usual,” by Cheri Van Hoover which you can find online. Reading it affirms the very positive impression one gains by looking at and touching his creations. This one is a true beauty. Walter Lampl was born in 1895 in New York City. In 1921, he opened his wholesale jewelry company and named it Walter Lampl. He became a very prominent jeweler. His early pieces are coveted by collectors due to their rarity. His beautifully designed Art Deco fine jewelry pieces demand high auction prices. After a wonderful and very successful career, Lampl died suddenly at age 50, in 1945. The family continued the business until 1959, when it closed its doors. He is well known for his puffy hearts charms and other items in his costume jewelry line, all of which garner very high prices. But, this ring is rare example of his highest quality workmanship, the use of the finest materials, and design perfection. Truly a collector’s item, to be worn and admired and loved.
