This is a jade figural pendant carved into the form of the Goddess of Mercy, Compassion, and Kindness in Asian culture. She is considered to be a mother-goddess, much like Mary in Christianity, and patron of seamen. The name Kuan Yin also spelt Guan Yim, Kuan Yim, Kwan Im, or Guan Yin, is a short form for Kuan-shi Yin, meaning "Observing the Sounds (or Cries) of the (human) World". A famous legend has it that the Quan Yin paused on the threshold of Heaven, and upon hearing the cries of anguish coming from earth, she turned and vowed to remain and to help others in need for as long as necessary. She is highly revered and called upon in Buddhist cultures. She is on a black silk cord which you may want to replace. The pendant measures 2" ht by 7/8" wide.
