Very unusual triangular shaped silk embroidery panel from the early 19th century China. This silk embroidery has several special embroidery elements. First, is that the main design over a navy blue silk background is entirely composed of what is referred to as the forbidden stitch. Secondly, The design includes the highly prized gold thread, both in the forbidden stitch and the alternate stitching of the flower stems. Both of these elements are highly valued by collectors and connoisseurs. The design is of alternating peony buds and blossoms with beautiful blue winged butterflies. The panel has a lotus blossom design silk trim. This Chinese silk treasure is in relative good condition for its age. There has been some wear on the edges and has some soiling, especially on the back (see photos). 20 ½” long and 8 ½” wide.
