Reja is so collectible for so many reasons. The quality, the design, how rare it is to come across. This necklace is stunning. 5 leaf medallions set with a mulititude of clear rhinestones are linked together at the center. Each link is 1" long by almost 3/4" high. The total length of the central section is 6", the entire necklace is 15". The gold plating is bright, as are the crystals, and you can just feel the quality in its balance and heft. The necklace looks new - the gold plating so brilliant and in superb condition everywhere. It looks like a few of the stones may have been replaced; I say this because a few seem to be slightly smaller than the rest. This is only noticeable with magnification. Whereas the front of the necklace is bright gold color, the back of the leaves is a very, very smooth silver tone. One of the leaf medallions is marked REJA on the reverse. Please know that the photos do not do this necklace justice! This necklace is over 60 years old and is gorgeous!
Reja, Inc. was founded by Sol Finkelstein in 1939 in New York City. It was originally called Deja Costume Jewelry, Inc. Du Jay, Inc. took Deja to court over trade name similarity and won in October, 1940. As of January 1941, the company name was changed to Reja, because, (according to Brunialti in A Tribute to America) it was easy to change the "D" to an "R" on the stamped signature. Reja operated from 1941 through December 1953, when the company declared bankruptcy.
Reja jewelry is extremely high quality, high priced, and is very collectible because of its quality, design, and scarcity.
