This is an outstanding example of a 19th c American knife box. This cutlery tray has an outstanding surface with great color and is in excellent condition. It is constructed of solid tiger maple with a finely applied walnut handle. The bottom of the box is likely chestnut . Fine square nails were used in its construction. This cutlery box has survived in a wonderful pleasing surface of beautiful figured maple and remains in an almost perfect state of original condition. It measures 12 7/8” x 9 3/4” x 4”.
