Victorian late 1800s to very early 1900s period mesh purse. This purse has an unusual design that features fine mesh and fabulous frame and clasp. There is a hallmark stamped on the underside of the frame, it marked Soldfred German Silver Germany. . This purse dates to the late 1800s -early 1900's. The bag has a gorgeous open design that is seen in the center of bag and another a few inches from the center one.
The bottom of the purse is scalloped in the same open design MEASUREMENTS:
Purse measures 13 inches long with the handle and 6 1/2 inches measuring from the top of the purse by 5 1/4" wide. Total weight is 98 grams.
Excellent overall condition. The frame and clasp are in snug and perfect working order. The sterling silver mesh rings are all in excellent condition. There is one side near the side of frame where a couple of the silver rings need to be be attached to frame, you do not notice this until you look right at the frame, which is all engraved with tiny flowers.
The bag is gorgeous and can be used the way it is, I myself would do nothing as it seems to all fit with the design. This could possibly be done by the manufacturer. 'German Silver' or 'Alpaca Silver' are not actually composed of silver but are made of a silver colored base metal that looks and feels like silver.
