Luigi Lucioni was born in Italy in 1900. He migrated to the New York City in 1911, with his family. Lucioni began to study with William Starkweather and then went to the National Academy of Design. In 1924, he went back to Italy and studied the Renaissance and Flemish paintings. This trip really influenced his photo realism style.
The portrait of the gentlemen is very well done with meticulous attention to detail. The second piece that is a companion to this piece is a signed engraving of a farm possibly Lucioni's summer home in Vermont. The engraving is 9 x 12 and the portrait is 27 x 23 in a plain wood frame. The person in the portrait can be identified in several works by Lucioni.
