Adriaen Van Ostade was born in 1610 and died in 1685 in Holland. He was active in Holland, Germany and the Netherlands. He became a pupil of Franz Hals a portrait painter. Van Ostade painted a series of Tavern Scenes in 1653 some of them hanging in the Lourvre. His painting of people in exaggeration and frolicking in this scene is typical of his work.

The original oil on panel painting by Van Ostade is signed on the lower right. The painting has several pieces of documentation that is available with this Old Master. The painting measures 22 x 30 in a plain gold frame
