Arthur Parton was known as a Hudson River artist. He was born in Hudson, NY in 1862. He enrolled in the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art where he was a student of William Trost Richards. Parton regularly exhibited at the National Academy in New York. He spent a year in Europe and was influenced by the Barbizon style of painting. He explored several other styles of painting such as tonalism and impressionism, but seemed to closely align himself with the Hudson River style.

The original oil on board by Arthur Parton is signed on the lower left "Arthur Parton". The landscape is in very good condition, there are no repairs on the canvas, in the original frame measuring 26 x 33.
