Arthur Parton was known as a Hudson River artist. He was born in Hudson, NY in 1862. He enrolled in the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art where he was a student of William Trost Richards. Parton regularly exhibited at the National Academy in New York. He spent a year in Europe and was influenced by the Barbizon style of painting. He explored several other styles of painting such as tonalism and impressionism, but seemed to closely align himself with the Hudson River style.
