This is an original oil on canvas painting by William Penn Morgan portraying a mother, her infant and young son entitled the "Bubble Pipe." Mr. Morgan was born in London, England. In 1826 at age fourteen he moved to Paris, France to study art of the Old Masters. He did not want to return to England. He became a sailor in 1840 and arrived in Brooklyn, New York in 1851. He lived in Brooklyn until he died in 1900. Morgan went to the National Academy intermittently from 1855 to 1860. He is recognized as a painter of domestic genre such as young children with mothers in playful settings. This is an excellent example of his work.

The painting is signed W. Morgan on the lower left side in red. The canvas has been relined, and the back has an exhibition label from Coe Kerr Gallery, East 82nd Street, New York, NY. The painting measures 48 x 42 inches in an ornate gilt frame.
