The USS Yellowstone AD27 was a Shenandoah-class destroyer tender named for Yellowstone National Park. She was launched in 1945 and commissioned in January of 1946. She tended destroyers, submarines and aircraft carriers of the Atlantic Fleet for the next 28 years. She was so reliable and dependable that she was nicknamed “Old Faithful” after the famous geyser in Yellowstone National Park. She also had a reputation as “Queen of the Tenders.” This handmade cribbage board measures approximately 16” by 7” by 1”. There is a very nicely done wood base with green felt on the bottom. The top appears to be a thick layered black plastic screwed into the base at the four corners. Written in white is the inscription TO “DOM” WITH GOOD LUCK then CPO QUARTERS USS YELLOWSTONE AD27. FINISH and START are also marked in white. It is a once around cribbage board with 3 tracks. Amazingly it came with 6 brass pegs. There are normal scuffs from use and a small chip on the edge of one peg hole, but overall I think it is in very good condition. This would make a wonderful gift for a Navy veteran.
