Superb quality Antique late 19th century, circa 1880 Portuguese gild Bronze sculpture depicting a Nuno Alvares Pereira ,famous Portuguese knight and chief commander of Portuguese army. He is holding a sword and wearing full armour with tunic adorned on the chest and the sleeves with his coat of arms. The quality of this sculpture is remarkable. All the details of the armour and knight's head are hand chiseled with fine details. The sculpture is mounted on its original marble base with a brass plaque on the front, hand inscribed, "Nuno Alvares" "Barbeitos" "Lisboa".
CONDITION: Minor chips on the edges of the marble base, gilding slightly worn, point of the sword broken, otherwise in good condition. MEASUREMENTS: Height, including the marble base: 22.5 cm (8 7/8 in). Height of the bronze figure without the marble base: 30.7 cm (7 1/4 in). + Dimension of the Marble base: approximately 8.5 x 7 cm x 4 cm (3 3/8 in x 2 3/4 in x 1 5/8 in).
