Rare antique 17th century Turkish Ottoman Islamic war shield buckler Kalkan. Details: A shield made of a spiral constructed wicker core, with exterior covered with a wrought iron sheet and adorned on the surface with brass circular tokens riveted by iron nails, the center is reinforced by large domed iron boss (umbo). The inner side is reinforced by a solid iron plate fitted with suspension loops.
DIAMETER (approximate): 25.5 cm (10.04 inches)
CONDITION: All is fair, showing age, wear, rust deposits, and scattered pitting. Wicker on the rim is damaged, some brass tokens missing otherwise in good condition considering its age.
REFERENCES: A similar shield, but not of as good quality as this one, was for sale by Czerny's on the 17 October 2008 with the Estimation price: 2 000 / 2 500 €
