This is an oil miniature portrait by Walter Ferris Biggs (1851-1910).
Incredible detailed and perfection, it is an oil portrait of a young handsome gentleman with a forked beard. It is signed on the front "Biggs". Based on the fashion of the portrayed it is possible to date it between 1880-1890
The miniature is encapsulated under plane glass, in a red textured leather box, and was encircled by an oval brass frame.
The miniaturist W. F. Biggs was born in 1851 at Islington, London, England. In the 1910 census Walter F Biggs is a painter of portraits living as a boarder in Philadelphia. His wife is not with him, but he states his present marriage has lasted 19 years, suggesting he was married in 1891. He also states he arrived in the United States in 1871 and is naturalized.
A clue to his whereabouts in the intervening years is found where he appears to have married Elisa Moore y Sinnot (1867-1944) in Argentina. Biggs may have painted portraits in both Argentina and in the United States.
