Antique, handmade silver quince box. Stunning design. A quince is a fruit similar to an apple but harder and eaten after being cooked. Delightful in pies and jams and definitely more popular in Europe. This century and half old gem is made of 800 silver.
It feels like a smooth golf ball in your hand. Hallmarked for France, with a mark for Lyon, late 1700's, pre-Minerve era. There are indications it was originally gilt but the gold interior vermeil has worn away. Otherwise it is in stunning condition. Free of dings or dents. It is marvelous! Truly fine and beautiful hand etched detail around the top and bottom!
