A lovely set of six Noritake porcelain salt dishes. These quatrefoil salts are beautifully painted with forget-me-nots on an apricot blush ground and are edged with gilding. They are 3½" (9cm) in length.
There is a small amount of loss to the gilding on one edge of one of the salt dishes, as shown in photograph 6. Other than this, they are all in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs. To the base, five of the set have the blue painted mark ‘NORITAKE NIPPON’ while the sixth is marked ‘MADE IN JAPAN.’ This particular Noritake mark indicates that the porcelain was made in Japan but exported before the pieces were decorated. The mark was used from 1911.
These would be perfect not only as individual dishes for salt to accompany celery or radishes, but also for dipping sauces, or for nuts and crisps with an aperitif.
Why not look at my shop? I have other Noritake porcelain items, as well as other wonderful ceramics from Japan and Europe.
