This is one of those signature Limoges sets that are easily recognizable by the collector of fine Limoges porcelain. The serving plate measures 10 1/2 inches in diameter across the gilded handles and the two smaller plates measure 8 ¼ inches across the scalloped rim highlighted by embossed blossoms and a band of rich Roman gold. The pair of red roses cascade on stem and leaf to the center of each piece. The factory artist, L. Auguste, has paid careful attention to detail. Note the thorns on the stems, the detailed leaves and shadow foliage, and the gold leaves at the center that are signatory of his work. A rich deep green sets off the stunning composition.
Each piece has been triple marked - rare indeed! They bear the Bawo & Dotter Elite underglaze factory mark 5 in green that was used after 1900 and the overglaze decorating marks 9 and 10 that were used from 1900-1914. There are no chips, cracks, crazing or damages of any kind. There is only the slightest of wear to the gilded borders and edges.
