LIBBEY SABER ABP AMERICAN BRILLIANT PERIOD CUT GLASS HOLLOW DIAMOND HONEYCOMB CARAFE Scarce
We are delighted today to introduce a saber signed Libbey Cut Glass Company
Water Carafe in a Hollow Diamond-Honeycomb motif/pattern.
It is a very unique and rare scarce carafe, perhaps one of kind.
Having researched all known sources of Libbey Cut Glass information, including those referring to New England Cut Glass, its predecessor; and not locating a single pattern developed by said companies, fully crafted in honeycombs, also hosting a Libbey Saber signature; this is very rare, scarce, perhaps developed as a marketing tool or one of a kind item.
PLEASE SEE THE PHOTOS TO AID IN THE DESCRIPTION.
In the last photo I have traced the base of the bowl as the best I can so the you can appreciate the intricacy of the cutting of this pattern,
note how the pattern begins first with which appears to be a 6 petal flower, 6 quadrilateral hollow diamonds, then increases to pentagons, then transfers to hexagons throughout the piece overall. This is visible to the naked eye, however in the photos it is difficult to observe and thus I have provided a tracing of it.
It stands 8 inches tall and 6 5/8 inches wide, weight approximately 4.5 pounds.
Its rarity is partially based upon the fact that Honeycombs, Punties, St. Louis and Bullseye are very expensive motifs in that crafting them well is difficult.
They must be perfect or a defect will show, and therefore render it detrimental to the item, i.e. generally these motifs are used as pattern enhancements.
One can see/verify the precise engineered cutting in the photos shown displaying how the carafe sits on One hexagon.
Having not been unable to locate any pattern with honeycombs fully cut throughout; we believe it very rare and scarce. Its provenance as written above:
Marketing or One of a kind example
Crafted during the American Brilliant Period on a mouth blown very fine
white water blank, heavy, and SIGNED on the base in one of the Hexagons with the famous Libbey Saber acid stamp.
The sizes and shapes of the Hexicons graduate as they are worked towards the bulbous bowl,
reflection from the light source is outstanding. Please note that both quality and condition as governed by its physical features are excellent and it is signed..
That in itself is rare.
Please feel free to ask questions,
No major issues with age related minor, minor wear
In good shape for 120+ years no cracks or repairs, noted a few tiny micros.
Crystal clear inside and out, I don't believe liquid has ever touched the interior.
