This is a very unusual antique French vanity box. There are decoupaged scenes with people on each of the four sides of the carrier box. These scenes are hand painted to give more depth and detail. Beside these scenes are hand painted swags of roses. There are six smaller boxes inside the carrying box. Three are round and three are rectangular. They all have decoupage and hand painting on them. The sides of all the boxes have hand painted stripes down their sides, colorful paper linings and bottoms and each box has a paper sticker on the bottom reading, Made in France.
The big box once had beautiful pink brocade fabric on it, but now the fabric is faded and worn as seen in the pictures. This does not take away from the character and fine quality of all of the box and its parts. There are brass handles and brass round feet. It is all original.
The small boxes are all in very good condition, except for one 1.5 inch tear on the back at the top of the box. The colors of the hand painting, decoupage and inside paper of the boxes is bright and crisp. The carrier box is 12 x 8 x 2 inches. The two small rectangular cask boxes are 3.25 x 1.75 x 1.5 inches high. The longer rectangular box is 5 x 1.75 x 1.5 inches high. Two of the round boxes are 3 inches across the base x 1.5 inches high and one is 3 inches across the base x 2.5 inches high.
The smaller boxes are fabulous to use for all kinds of treasures and especially to hold little dolls and doll related items.
