In the 1970's when I began collecting marine antiques, I acquired a fascinating book, Stark's History of the Bahamas, (Copyright 1891) written by man who had cruised the islands, sort of a 19th century cruising guide to the Bahamas. It included ads for steamship lines and hotels, and a chart of the Bahamas, offered on another ad. I removed the ads and had them framed in Ft. Lauderdale with non glare glass This had gracefully aged on my walls since then. The ads probably paid for printing the book. This ad is for a 23 day cruise from New York, to Santiago Cuba, Colon Panama, Kingston Jamaica and Colombia; also from Halifax to West Indies via Bermuda. The wonderful drawing is of a straight bow 2 stack steamer with 2 decks of port lights, cutting through the seas amid a cloud of coal smoke..This is ideal for a travel agency or a world traveler.
