This Beautiful Woven Songket is Really a Work of Textile Art. And to Have Been Kept in Such Splendid Condition Over it's Lifetime is no Less Than a Miracle. This Superb Example Originates From Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Traditionally Women Within The Community Would Weave These Treasures During Their Spare Time And Based on The Quality of This Museum Example, The Competition Between Them Must Have Been Fierce. The Deep Red Cotton Ground With Supplementary Weft Silver Thread Illustrates a Star Pattern And Tumpal Lanes. Essentially The Condition is Excellent With Minimal Use. There Are a Few Pulls in The Thread But Nothing Disturbing. No Staining And no Stinks. Highly Collectable And a Wonderful Example For The True Asian Textile Connoisseur.
This Songket Measures 204 cm Length x 77 cm wide.
I Would Date This Songket To The Early 20th Century, Circa 1910.
