This great lighter case dates from WWII and features an engraving of a bulldog wearing boxing gloves. Engraved to either side of the fighting dog is "VMF" "223". The reverse side of the locket is engraved with the name "Jack E George". The engravings reveal this lighter to have once belonged to a member of the US Marine Fighter Squadron 223 nicknamed the "Bulldogs" marking the battle at Guadalcanal.
