Art Nouveau era 999 fine silver overlay perfume bottle. This bottle was made by the Alvin Corporation, and is marked as 999 fine silver, with the Alvin trademark and C48 which I believe would be the bottle pattern.
An absolutely exquisite bottle. This kind of silver overlay appeared in the 1880s and involves coating the entire bottle in fine silver and then cutting parts away to make the pattern, similar to pierced work. This process would have been painstakingly done by hand by a skilled craftsman.
This bottle measures approximately 6 3/4" in diameter at the base and is 5" tall. The stopper is 2" in diameter.
The bottle and stopper have been ground to fit each other and are each individually engraved with the number 107 to pair them during manufacture.
Bottle is in very good condition, the glass has a few scratches on the base as expected from age. Silver is in great condition.
