This plate is a fine example of French Majolica. Made by the renowned Sarreguemines Pottery, a powerhouse in French ceramics at the turn of the last century comparable to Wedgwood or Minton, the piece evokes the desires and sensibilities of another era that are nevertheless still attractive today. Six beautiful segments with detailed shell motifs surround a central node. The earthy browns with a slight greenish-gray accent sit gloriously on the shiny poignant glaze that is majolica. The oyster plate would make a superb addition to any collection or serve well as a decorative art in any residence.
