This glorious decanter set breathes sophistication. Natural, simple, geometric designs etched in clear crystal glass provide ornamentation to any party or collection. Waves, clouds, and mountains sit on a clear canvas of crystal. The slight curve in each cup complements the larger curves on the main flask. Orrefors is a glassworks company from Sweden that has been making glass for over a century. In 1916, Orrefors hired Simon Gate as one of their principal designers. He was a trained artist, but had no previous knowledge in glassmaking. He, along with Edvard Held, brought a fresh perspective to the company. Gate worked with master glassblower Knut Bergkvist to create a new mode of glass design called Graal. Gate also exhibited at the Paris Exposition in 1925, working with engraver Gustaf Abels. Their design won awards at the Exposition and caused the term “Swedish Grace” to become synonymous with Art Deco.
