This elegant Galloway vase is neoclassical with a black matte finish. One can see the column-esque shape of the vase, as well as the buttresses that come out of the sides. The mixture of long curves and straight lines creates a form that is pleasing to the eye. Simple, but not simplistic, the piece is monochromatic: black. The Galloway Terra-Cotta Company of Philadelphia made this vase c. 1920. Although little is known about the manufacturer itself, it is clear that Galloway pieces were very popular in America at the turn of the 20th Century.
