This wonderful collection of servers comes from the hand of noted artist Sascha Brastoff. Brastoff, a Cleveland native born to European immigrants, became famous for his art studio in California and is most remembered for his contribution to California Pottery (though he also did sculptures, dance, paintings, etc.). This set is done in the surf ballet style, which the color of the ceramic (in this case pink) was swirled with real gold or platinum. It is, thus, very modern in appeal, though also elegant, due to the nature and function of the piece. The set consists of a round platter (14 1/4 in. D), a coffee server (10 1/2 in. H), a handled covered sugar bowl, and creamer. Brastoff created this line in the late 1940s and produced it until the late 1950s. A must-have item for any collector of mid-century California Pottery.
