The portrait depicts a stately admiral with black hat, adorned vestments, medals and other pieces of 18th C. attire. He stares firmly and boldly ahead. The border of the plate depicts sail ships flowing on green oceans with large clouds in the background. This classic Royal Doulton plate comes from the Professionals series (each plate depicts a different occupation). There were four separate firings starting in 1909 and ending in 1975. This is one of the earlier productions, dating to c. 1939. On the back of the plate, the classic Royal Doulton symbol, complete with lion, can be seen. The set number is also found on the back: D5902D. This would make a great addition to any Royal Doulton collection.
