This porcelain plate has a grayish black background with several of the border characters with colors that are different from those in later productions. The central image is of Robert Burns, the famous 18th C. Scottish poet. Behind the image of Burns is a man plowing his field. Various characters from his writings surround the edge of the plate. Tam O Shanter, Highland Mary, Duncan Gray, The Cotter's Saturday Night, Here's A Health To Them That's Awa, Halloween, John Anderson, My Jo-John, Holy Willie, and What Can A Young Lassie are all represented. This Robert Burns plate by the prestigious Royal Doulton Company came in several versions. This particular version is quite early dating to c. 1938. On the back of the plate is the standard Royal Doulton symbol, complete with lion, and the set number D3397. This plate would make a fine addition to any Robert Burns collection or to any Royal Doulton collection.
