This neoclassical sculpture depicts a mythological creature who is a man with goat features in the nude. He has a tail and goat ears. The satyr looks to the ground as he prepares to throw the discus. One can see the exertion in his face as he gets ready to exert a great amount of energy. This is a wonderful piece from a wonderful German sculptor and would make a handsome addition to any home or office. This bronze satyr was made by H. Gladenbeck & Sohn. Hermann Gladenbeck was a famous bronze sculptor in the mid-to-late 19th C. who later in life operated a foundry with his son.
