This stunning inkwell is a true delight to the eyes. The centerpiece sits on a round, ribbed tray with pietre dure all around. There are eight depictions all together, ranging from butterflies, to birds, to flowers. These, in turn, are made of a variety of stones themselves. The brass upon which these stones are set is engraved with floral and leafy patterns. They make their way up to the central goblet. This circular figure, complete with finial and inkwell stands above the rest of the piece. It too is covered in the patterns of the tray below. The borders of the stone pieces and the edge of the tray complement this luxurious feel with tiny brass beads. This piece is a nice complement to M1970.
