Part of the “Chase” line, this rounded vase depicts a fox chase. The images are a creamy white set on a deep blue background. A man with a top hat jumps a fence by horse as his faithful hound dog follows closely behind. This piece comes from the height of the turn of the century Ohio Pottery movement. It was made by Weller Pottery. The pottery was started by Samuel A. Weller near Zanesville, Ohio as a part of the growing pottery industry based there in the late 19th Century. Weller continued to grow as a powerhouse in American pottery and exhibited at the famous St. Louis Exposition. Sadly, the Great Depression sunk this once mighty pottery name. This piece is a fine example of Weller’s craft and allows the line to live on in ceramic glory.
