For sale here is a striking BIG 1983 handmade clay on wood base 'Wolf and Caribou Eskimo Folk Tale' totemic modernist sculpture by well-known Racine Wisconsin artist Gerhard Kroll (Germany, 1930- ). Kroll was born in Germany in 1930, and along with his family emigrated to the US in the early 1950s. He graduated from the Layton School of Arts in 1961, and opened his first studio in Milwaukee the same year. There is a considerable amount of biographical information available about the artist online. By the early 1980s when Kroll made this sculpture he was located in Racine, Wisconsin. The sculpture is incised at back with artists initials "GK", and dated 1983. Also retains it's original gallery label at bottom as shown, and the label is also pencil-signed by the artist and dated 1985. Measures 15-1/2" tall including the base, by 4-1/4" by 4-1/4" at base. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear to the wood base, no damage of any kind to the clay section as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase.
