For sale here is a SUPERB set of vintage 1940s Art Deco to Modernist handmade mixed metals copper and brass geometric design necklace with matching earrings by Loyola Fourtane (1899-1976 USA) of Sausalito California. Her jewelry is extremely rare and always one of a kind. According to Edan Hughes in Artists in California, she was born in 1899 in Santa Clara California, married to the artist Ed Fourtane, they lived in San Francisco in the 1930s, moved to Sausalito where they lived on a boat - the SS Lassen - during the war years, and in the 1950s moved to Carmel where they had a gallery and sold jewelry for several years. She passed away in 1976. I've included a photo of the artist showing her working on a similar necklace from the Archives of American Art and dated September 3, 1946 also marked "Loyola Fourtane SS Lassen". I'm dating this necklace and earring set to just about the same time. Composed of copper and brass, and entirely handmade. The necklace measures 15" wearable length by 3/4" wide, the earrings measure 7/8" by 3/4", and the set weighs 65.2 grams total. The necklace is hand-etched marked "Loyola Fourtane SS Lassen Sausalito California" and one of the earrings is marked "Loyola Fourtane Sausalito Calif". The screwbacks on the earrings are stamped "Sterling". Excellent vintage condition with just slight wear with some tarnish as shown - and I haven't touched the original patina - please view the photos, read the description and my terms below, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
