For sale here is a HUGE vintage 1970s Jean-Louis Scherrer France handmade black plastic & rhinestone Art Deco revival geometric Step Design brooch. In the late 1970s, Scherrer designed a line of Art Deco influenced jewelry pieces to which the wearer could add a small vial of his perfume for a night out on the town! (See my last photo for an advertisement illustration for Scherrer from the period.) The design is stepped from both the sides inwards as well as the top and bottom toward the middle! On the topmost row running the length of the brooch is a line of small colorless rhinestones hand prong-set in goldtone metal. Here's a short biography of the designer edited from online sources including Wikipedia:
Jean-Louis Scherrer (19 February 1935 – 20 June 2013) was a Parisian fashion designer and couturier.
Born in Paris, Scherrer trained as a dancer at the Conservatoire de Paris until he injured his back, which put him out of action for three months. He then decided to focus on fashion design, and in 1956, joined Christian Dior as an assistant designer alongside Yves Saint Laurent. Following Dior's death in 1957, Scherrer worked under Saint Laurent, and then for Louis Féraud, before launching his own fashion house in 1962 on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré with the backing of Jacques Chabrol, a French millionaire.
His clients included Anne-Aymone Giscard d'Estaing, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Raquel Welch, who wore Scherrer animal-print dresses in the 1977 film L'Animal.
By the 1980s, his work was known for its opulence and luxury, with many garments hand-beaded, embroidered and lavishly trimmed, and his extremely expensive designs were popular with the wealthy wives of Middle East oil tycoons.
Measures 4-1/8" long by 1/18" tall. Marked at back as shown, "Jean-Louis Scherrer Paris" and with original sticker to one side, "Made in France". The pin has a small opening in the back that can accommodate a perfume vial. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear really nearly like new as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
